Harrington wins Big East tennis again, regional eyes | high schools

Northern Nash’s Chloe Harrington leads the Big East Conference once again.

Just months after earning Women’s Tennis Player of the Year honors at the end of her junior season in the COVID-shortened 2021 spring season, the Knights senior is on top again.

Her recognition comes after the Knights’ top singles player captured the Big East Conference singles championship with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Rocky Mount High’s McKinley Battle.

Also for the Knights, Lisa Dees finished third in singles.

Harrington qualified for the regional 3-A competition held Oct. 22-23 in Burlington. There, Harrington will attempt to reach the state tournament for the third consecutive season. She finished the regular season with a 10-0 record for first place in singles.

Qualifiers for the Big East Regional 3-A also include: McKinley Battle and Dees in singles. Doubles team qualifiers include the Gryphons’ Battle and Molly Morningstar, as well as Madelyn Girouard and Hannah Richardson.

The Knights doubles team of Lauren Milligan and Taylor Mcintyre also qualified for regionals.
