A new defense building – a 62-storey skyscraper – is set to redefine the skyline of Colaba, one of India’s most expensive districts, as the government moves closer to awarding a contract for the project. , officials familiar with the development said on Friday.

The 190-meter residential skyscraper, built for the Indian Navy, will be the tallest defense building in the country, the Hindustan Times has learned.

It will come on a 7,500 square meter plot, and the construction cost is likely to be more than 270 crore, officials said.

The 220-unit building is expected to be completed within 30 months of contract award.

The new building code, which aims to promote multi-storey construction for defense land optimization, is in line with government programs like Swachh Bharat, Sugamya Bharat and Digital India, as well as the green building movement and sustainability initiatives, renewable energy and carbon footprint reduction.

The single-tower complex will include four living units on each floor, excluding the eight levels of fire shelter required for a building of this height, officials said. Each apartment will measure 147 square meters.

The skyscraper will also have a multi-level (five-storey) parking lot that can accommodate 224 cars, officials said.
