Fargo Park District plans to replace Metro Rec Center roof for nearly $1 million – InForum


FARGO – The Fargo Park District is looking to do major repair work on the roof of the Metro Recreation Center at 3110 Main Ave. after windstorms earlier this year blew off parts of the roof.

At a recent meeting, the park district facilities committee voted to recommend that the full park board approve Fargo Roofing & Siding Co. to do the work, based on a bid from basis of approximately $898.00, plus the cost of a payment and performance bond. approximately $45,000, for a total cost of approximately $943,000.

Additional expenses may be incurred if deteriorated wood needs to be replaced.

If Fargo Roofing & Siding’s bid is accepted by the Park District, repairs could be completed this fall, Park District officials said.

A windstorm in May and another storm in June caused roofing materials to detach from the structure. Interim repairs have been made, but a complete roof overhaul is needed to protect the structure from the elements this winter, officials said.

The building, known as the Metro Rec Center, has operated as a recreation center since late 1987, according to a story in the Forum Archives.

According to the story, before becoming the Metro Rec Center, the structure housed a manufacturing plant for agricultural equipment.

Although the building currently has an indoor playground, that part of the Metro Rec Center’s function is expected to disappear once a new activity complex being built is completed in early 2024, officials said. of the Park District.
