CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Central Visayas Football Association (CVFA) plans to host the national stage of the PFF U19 Boys National Championships in Cebu City later this year.
The CVFA U19 team recently topped Group E of Division 2 of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Visayas National U-19 Championship, held at the sports center in Cebu City (CCSC).
The team capped off their campaign with a dominating 3-1 win over Kaya FC Iloilo on June 22, 2022.
Their impressive Group E exit has booked them a ticket to the PFF U19 Boys National Championships which will feature the rest of the teams that dominated the other Division 2 group stages.
With that in mind, CVFA team manager Josephril Partosa has revealed that he plans to secure the rights to host the national finals on the artificial pitch at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex at South Road Properties (SRP ), Cebu City.
“We are waiting for the three teams from Mindanao. We plan to host nationally. We’ve already spoken with the PFF and inspected Dynamic Herb, which is slated to open in July. We no longer have problems with the training location, we only look at the national tournament schedule,” Partosa said.
The team aims to start training camp in July. At the same time, part of their preparations is looking for ways to host the prestigious football tournament that Cebu truly deserves.
“It’s our preparation. We are preparing to improve Cebu football and bring it back to the national level. Our main goal is to bring Cebu back to Division 1 since we are there originally,” Partosa said.
If successful, the CVFA will host a major soccer tournament this year for the third time.
After sports were allowed in Cebu City last February, CVFA in partnership with DepEd organized the Palarong Pambansa Bubble Football Tournament last May which was a huge success.
Afterwards, the CVFA went on to host the Visayas leg of the PFF U-19 National Championship Division 2.
If the planned accommodation materializes, football fans in Cebuano will be able to see top-notch football action on artificial turf for the first time.
The Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex, which is the home ground of the Cebu Football Club (CFC) Gentle Giants, has a FIFA standard artificial turf inside the 1.2 hectare property at SRP. It can accommodate up to 500 spectators. /rcg
