Kota Kinabalu: Community Development and State Welfare Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya has urged the Sabahans to act as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the government to stop excessive price increases in the state. He also encouraged the public to exercise their rights by filing reports of excessive price increases. He said this during a “Kami Bah Ini” talk show, hosted by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), at the KKMM integrated complex here on Monday.

Shahelmey said this could prevent any unfair increase in the price of items. “The public can lodge complaints directly with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP),” he said. Shahelmey said one of the government’s measures to reduce the burden and high cost of living is the Malaysian Family Sales Scheme.

“Starting this month, every constituency in the state will host the program, which previously took place twice a month in every parliamentary constituency,” he added. He said the program gives people the choice to buy basic necessities at cheaper and competitive prices. Shahelmey also expressed his support for the formation of the task force, called the Inflation Control Jihad, which was recently announced by the Prime Minister.
