AUDA has eyes on 2036 Olympics bid


With its eyes firmly fixed on hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics, Ahmedabad’s supreme planning body – the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) – is considering an ambitious 20-year development plan. year. Common practice is to write a 10-year development plan.

For the same, AUDA plans to involve the main institutions of the city. For example, the Space Applications Center (SAC) of ISRO, Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG) will be responsible for managing satellite imagery. The 2021-2041 plan will focus on the development of the 20 contiguous villages of Ahmedabad in a peripheral area of ​​5 km radius outside the SP Ring Road.

“A number of representations have been made to the government by developers demanding a comprehensive long-term plan for the city, as many of the targets of previous ten-year plans were not achieved within the prescribed timeframe,” a senior official said. Head of AUDA.

To draft the plan, AUDA first plans to set up a Development Plan (DP) Unit with a separate account for overheads. The whole process will be led by a chairperson and will include an urban planner, GIS expert, GIS analyst, GIS operator, computer-aided design (CAD) operator and DP cell. A private agency will participate in the preparation of the DP report, which will also include the planning schools of two universities, AUDA said.

The government of Gujarat is constructing a large sports complex in Ahmedabad, keeping in mind the possibility of India hosting the first Summer Olympics in 2036.

In November 2021, AUDA said in a press release that it had “launched the next phase of activities to initiate a dialogue with the IOC for the candidacy of Ahmedabad as the host city of a future edition of the Summer Olympics” after assessing infrastructure needs. .
