Bambi Zoleta kicked off his quest for a berth at the 19th Asian Games with an emphatic performance at the 1st PSTA Soft Tennis National Open last week at the Zoleta Tennis Center (ZTC) in Lucena City.

The 30-year-old La Zoleta used her home-field advantage to the fullest to overpower fellow national team member Princess Lobren Catindig 4-3(5) to clinch gold in the open women’s singles event of this tournament, which is at stake for two places at the Asian Games to be held in Hanoi in September.

Christy Sañosa and Gab Zoleta settled for bronze.

But Zoleta, a gold medalist at the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila in 2019, still needs to overcome four more stages to seal her place in the team that will contest the Asian Games.

Qualifying will take place at ZTC from March 19-20 before moving to Sta. Rosa Sports Complex from March 26 to 27. Then it will return to ZTC from April 9-10 and Sta. Rosa Sports Complex again April 23-24.

The deadline for submitting bids for the Asian Games will be around May. Zoleta and the other competitors are therefore invited to make every effort during the next tournaments.

Zoleta’s niece, Gab, also made her presence felt.

The 18-year-old College of Saint Benilde star beat Cristy Sañosa, 4-3 (9), to clinch the title in the Girls Under-21 singles while Shaira Gil Silva and Kyla Poon settled for bronze medals.

Her partnership with Zoleta, however, didn’t go too well as Catindig and Sañosa beat them in the women’s open doubles final, 4-2.

Meanwhile, Sherwin Ray Nuguit emerged victorious in the men’s under-21 event, Joseph Arcilla topped the men’s open class and Arcilla and Mikoff Manduriao conquered the men’s open doubles class to complete the first leg winners of the qualifiers. Asian Games.
