Bowie State Softball eyes CIAA roundup this weekend


BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State softball will begin conference play this weekend as the Bulldogs are set to participate in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) roundup from Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 27. The three-day event is hosted by both Saint Augustine’s and Shaw in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

The Bulldogs (7-11-1) will face Livingstone (0-0) at 10 a.m. on Friday (3/25), followed by a game against Johnson C. Smith (1-4) at 3 p.m. on Saturday (3/ 26), Bowie State will meet Fayetteville State (5-11) and Claflin (2-8) at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. The final day of the roundup will feature BSU and Winston-Salem State (3-5) at 9 a.m. and Saint Augustine (0-10) at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday (3/27).

Previously, the Bulldogs shared a doubleheader with Goldey-Beacom in their last outing. BSU took a 5-3 victory in the opener but fell 13-12 in the last drink. Senior graduate Evelyn Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) had one of the most consistent bats for the Bulldogs this season with a .400 batting average (24-60), a team-high 24 hits, 14 RBIs and second in home runs (2). First-year student Alyssa Cloutier (Derwood, MD) and Senior Graduate Aseyah Alexander (Silver Spring, MD) posts a .370 and .364 hitting clip as a senior Shanya Gordon (Elkridge, MD) has a team record 18 RBIs, 21 hits, eight doubles and a pair of triples.

Buehlman’s Three-Headed Monster, Jr. Akirra Pullen (Baltimore, MD) and freshman Lindsey George (Fayetteville, GA) will be looking to bring their best to the table in the roundup. All three combined for 78 strikeouts in 112.2 innings pitched. Buehlman is 4-5 overall with nine starts while Pullen has a 3.91 ERA and a 2-1 mark in the circle.
